X (used in signing documents)

The letter “X” has traditionally been used as a symbol of agreement or acknowledgment when signing documents. This practice originated when individuals unable to write their full name would use an “X” as their mark. Even in modern times, the “X” is still recognized as a valid symbol for consent on simple or informal agreements, especially when accompanied by witness verification. For legal or more formal documents, electronic signatures or handwritten names are preferred. Nonetheless, the “X” remains a representation of commitment and consent in signing agreements.
